In romance, I like to see a couple fall in love emotionally. I didn’t like how friendly Lucien was with his mistress, Blanche, I didn’t like how after meeting his future wife, Beth, he went and had one more night with his Blanche to say goodbye and I didn’t think it was very realistic that Beth would want to be friends with his Blanche, KNOWING who she was.
I like to switch it up.

My review is based on one unfortunate scene, and the way it’s delt with though the rest of the story. She could have insisted on being acknowledged as his daughter, or insisted he disinherit his son.
But it’s very much an act of civility. I’m disappointed this book has such high ratings. I am interested in further books from this author, especially Nicolas and Elanor’s First of all, let me say that, in all fairness,the reason I probably didn’t enjoy this book so much was because it wasn’t at all what I was expecting.
Such a cheeky git. Anyway, the book was okay, but there was nothing that really engaged me beyond wanting to get to the next in the series. I have never wanted to cause pain to someone like that in my life! Caught in an aristocrat’s web, Beth was determined to despise her betrothed. He was a charming rogue, and she was spunky and didn’t back down. His unremarkable features as usual told no secrets. One beide is outraged and tries to defend her. So we see her like a fish out of the water being thrown into the life of a Marques and his father the Duke. There are ah few secondary stories that added some interest: Both were so resistant to the idea of being forced into marriage that they never were willing to give the other a chance.
I kept this for a long time and then purchased the Kindle edition so definitely a favorite.
