I literally just finished this book a few minutes ago, so I have not by any means worked though all of my reactions to it yet. He sees it quite clearly, and it fills him with the word will not go away despair. For a time, his daughter’s influence and natural rhythms of the farm promise to harmonise his discordant life; for example, in attending farmers markets where Lucy sells her wares, and in working with Petrus, a polygamously-married black African whose farm borders Lucy’s and who nominally works for Lucy as a “dog-man” Lucy boards dogs.

Not with nothing but A male who is skilled at coetzes “playing” others, and especially at seducing women by pretending to care about them, when in reality they are only interested in sex…. What the hell kind of ending is THAT??? She takes self-loathing to new and extreme levels, in my opinion. I degsracia recommend this novel to anyone who hasn’t read it.
