I think this book makes a very good read, especially that is based on an autobiography. In the realm of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, neighbor to Pakistan, India and Persia in the later part of the 15th century, this first installment begins the life of 12 year old Prince Babur Mirza, son of Timur Tamburlaine and great grandson of Genghis Khan.

The writing is as compelling as the events described and kept me eagerly leaping from one page to the next – Wilbur Smith. Alex Rutherford keeps his account of such inhumanity to if minimum – sometimes arguably at a loss of an emotional connect with the book. Breathtaking stuff – Manda Scott.

From empide king of a sma The first of the ‘Empire of the Moghul’ series, which begins in when the 12 year old Babur is suddenly forced to become king of Ferghana, on the death of his father. It’s a good read, for whoever wants a colourful version of how the Moghuls came to be.

Threats to usurp his position arrive swiftly, leaving Babur to quickly strategize and to prove he is up to the task of protecting his people, and can rule with the strength and tenacity of his father before him.
