Was my first hindi novel. This is a classic tale of unrequited love. Considering that this book was written in and one can totally relate to it after six and a half decades depicts the brilliance of this book. Chandar has a choice: The book is very high on emotions but all female characters are portrayed as if their existence is solely for the benefit of males. The shuddh pure Hindi words were a treat to read after so many years.

Over time, it gained historical importance and a cult following of readers, especially among urban Indian men whose native language was Hindi. More than the story, the selection of words and style is commendable. Here author talks about a very contradictory sprouted idea, chander thinks that she is talking to him only because she is married and needs a lover.

Kavita, kahani, upanyas, natak, nibandh, aalochna, anuvad, ripotarj aadi vidhao ko unki lokhni se bahut-kuch milla hain. Selected title must be Rs or greater. The internal tussle of Chander between carnal love and soulful love was wonderfully depicted.

It makes you think. But the real thing which made me like this movie was its story. The best part of the book is description of behaviour changes in Chandan. Before I started with this book,I had this in my mind that I’ll be comfortably pleased with the book but Dharmvir Bharti ji’s splendid work shaked me right from head to toe. Now he is really confused about the definition of love. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. Frankly speaking I am scared to do injustice to the language.

I remember reading this book in Standard 8 and being completely baffled, by the strange love story between the protagonists. Being constantly harassed by her own mother and given in marriage to a “inappropriate” person but later saved by her uncle.
