Polk and the Expansionist Impulse. I find Polk to be such a fascinating chief executive so I was hoping for more stories about his personal background. Admittedly, James Polk is not one of expansioinst most interesting presidents, but this book does not do anything to make him more interesting.
Overall, Sam Haynes has authored a solid and serviceable — but not often exciting — biography of James Polk. Paperback, brief, and inexpensive, each of the titles in the Library of American Biography Series focus on a figure whose actions and ideas significantly influenced the course of American history and national jamew.
